Where were the children born? (Part 2)

Susannah (Deighton) Juchau passed away on 21 Jun 1854 at Marketplace in Isle of Thanet, Kent, England. Isle of Thanet is not an island although it once was hundreds of years ago. What once was the River Wanstrum grew narrower and narrower and silted up. Susannah had been born at St. Neots up north of London, married Charles in Hoxton, Middlesex, and then passed away out on an Eastern tip of England. Why was she there? Perhaps she had not been well and had traveled to Thanet for her health. Exactly one year later Charles remarried to Ann Wagstaff in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England and several months emigrated to the United States, settling first in New York City and later moving to Deep River, Connecticut.

Ann gave birth to twins on 21 Sep 1857 in Deep River, Middlesex, Connecticut: Charles Lewis and Annie Maria Juchau. Annie was stillborn and was buried the same day in "Free Ground" in the Fountain Hill Cemetery. Charles Lewis lived for over two years before passing away on 20 Sep 1859. He was likewise buried in "Free Ground" of the Fountain Hill Cemetery on the day of his death. The loss of each of these children must have been heartbreaking.

Soon after the loss of Lewis, the family returned to New York City. They are living at 18 Eldredge in the 1860 City Directory of New York. In 1865 they're living at 158 Prince and in 1866 at 153 Prince. We currently do not know what address they were living at on 23 Aug 1862 when Annie Louise was born, but it was very likely one of these two or another address in southern Manhattan.

Marriage of Charles Daniel Juchau and Susannah Deighton

Charles Daniel Juchau and Susannah Deighton were married by banns in the District Parish Church for the Parish of St. John the Baptist Hoxton in Middlesex, England on 26 Jan 1845. The witnesses are given as P. Juchan [Juchau] and Martha Juchan [Juchau]. My guess is that these are Charles's brother Philip and their mother. The marriage ceremony was performed by James Rickards "according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church".

Charles is listed as "of full age" [over 21], a Bachelor, and an Ivory Worker residing on East Road. Susannah is listed as a "minor" [she wouldn't be 21 for several more months in June], and a Spinster also living on East Road..
